Miguel Gozalo-Marcilla
Miguel Gozalo-Marcilla, DVM, PhD, Dipl. ECVAA, MRCVS
Miguel graduated as a veterinarian at the University of León (Spain) in 2004. After 2 years working in an equine referral practice, he worked in Belgium from 2007 to 2014. Within that period, he became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA), as well as Doctor of Veterinary Science (Ghent University) with his PhD thesis entitled “Dexmedetomidine for balanced anaesthesia in horses”. From 2015 to 2018 Miguel led a post-doctoral fellowship project at the São Paulo State University (UNESP) of Botucatu, Brazil; his team evaluated the sedative and antinociceptive effects of different combinations of the alpha-2 agonist detomidine and the opioid methadone.
In September 2018 Miguel joined the Department of Anaesthesia and Analgesia of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and The Roslin Institute, The University of Edinburgh as Senior Lecturer. Currently, his main research interest is focused in the Confidential Enquiry into Perioperative Equine Fatalities 4 (CEPEF4).
Miguel has published numerous research, review, and clinical articles in peer-reviewed veterinary journals on these topics. Miguel lectures regularly at national and international courses/conferences on anaesthesia, mainly in equine species.
