Alex Werner DipWCF CJF

Alex was born in Dachau, Germany in 1981 and spent his childhood in Wolnzach, 40 kms north of Munich. His love of horses developed during this time, and he rode horses regularly until he moved to Newmarket, England to start his farriery apprenticeship in 1999.

Alex trained with Dr Simon Curtis FWCF from September 1999 until he successfully passed his DipWCF in March 2004. During his time in Newmarket, he formed friendships with other European farriers who came to work for O A Curtis and sons which would influence his career right up to the present day.

Following his apprenticeship Alex initially moved back home and started a farriery practice. In 2006 he was offered the chance to move to America to become a resident farrier at the largest equine hospital in the world, Rood & Riddle. Whilst working there in 2007 he sat and passed the American Farriers Association (AFA) exam, the Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF).

In 2008 he moved back to Wolnzach and set up his Farriery practice. He currently employs a qualified farrier and has one apprentice. Day to day Alex and his team shoe a wide range of horses, from top level competition horses through to young stock and hobby horses. He also works for two veterinary hospitals one day a week using his vast experience on both lameness and surgical cases. Along with a couple of friends Alex organises a bi-annual farrier and vet conference in Wolnzach called The Podiatry Jam Session.

Alex is married to Anna, an equine vet, and they have two young boys. He enjoys being around horses, riding and breeding which they do from home.
